Oilfield Edge Computing and Remote Site Power
Oil and gas fields, pipelines, water systems and cell towers all depend on equipment at remote sites, often miles from the nearest power line or fiber. Edge computing puts processing at or near those sites, so data from sensors, meters, cameras and controllers can be handled locally instead of sent over a thin connection. That raises three practical questions: how the site connects, how it is powered and how it is protected.
The guides in this section answer them in plain terms. On connectivity, they compare satellite service, including Starlink, with cellular, private LTE, LoRaWAN and licensed radio, and explain why latency matters. On control systems, they cover SCADA, RTUs and PLCs, the digital oilfield and remote monitoring for generators. On hardware, they look at rugged edge servers and micro data centers built for heat, dust and vibration. On power, they explain how remote pads, monitoring sites and towers run on generators, solar and batteries. Security gets its own guide, because remote industrial networks are a target. Use the off-grid solar sizer to estimate the array and battery bank for a small remote load.
